4:13 They sacrifice on the mountaintops,

they sacrifice 9  under oak, poplar, and terebinth,

because their shade is so pleasant.

and your daughters-in-law commit adultery!

[22:41]  1 sn The name Bamoth Baal means “the high places of Baal.”

[16:4]  2 tn Heb “fell on his face.”

[17:10]  3 tn The verb means “to finish; to complete” and here “to bring to an end.” It is the imperfect following the imperative, and so introduces a purpose clause (as a final imperfect).

[17:10]  4 tn This is another final imperfect in a purpose clause.

[3:6]  5 tn “Have you seen…” The question is rhetorical and expects a positive answer.

[3:6]  6 tn Heb “she played the prostitute there.” This is a metaphor for Israel’s worship; she gave herself to the worship of other gods like a prostitute gives herself to her lovers. There seems no clear way to completely spell out the metaphor in the translation.

[20:28]  7 tn Heb “which I lifted up my hand.”

[20:29]  8 tn The Hebrew word (“Bamah”) means “high place.”

[4:13]  9 tn The phrase “they sacrifice” is not repeated in the Hebrew text here but is implied by parallelism; it is provided in the translation for the sake of clarity.
